SUMMARY:

Manage production, projects, and staff in the testing laboratory to include the efficient operation and maintenance of the test laboratories. Plan, organize, and control workflow to accomplish all lab functions in a safe and efficient manner. Ensure timely completion and communication of test results. EMC Testing Expertise: Deep knowledge of conducted and radiated emissions/immunity testing, EMC troubleshooting, and regulatory compliance (FCC, CE, IC, VCCI)

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recruit, schedule, train, and manage technical staff with expertise in EMC testing, electrical safety, and RF measurements
  • Serve as primary technical contact for EMC testing programs including conducted and radiated emissions/immunity testing
  • Interface directly with customers on EMC pre-compliance and certification testing requirements
  • Participate in EMC and electrical safety industry conferences and technical committees
  • Contribute to development of EMC testing service guides and electrical safety testing marketing materials
  • Responsible for staff recruiting, scheduling, training, performance management, and performance appraisals. Develop, implement, and monitor departmental processes, procedures, and policies; develop and implement measures to track performance and take corrective action.
  • Act as point of contact for all laboratory testing and programs. Work closely with laboratory equipment and supply vendors.
  • Act as point of contact for customers. Set, meet, and manage customer expectations. Ensure lab personnel meet customer expectations.
  • Actively set targets and work to improve overall operation efficiency of the laboratory, reduce lead times, and increase throughput of customer projects.
  • Provide reliable turnaround times and ensure completion dates for customer projects are met.
  • Evaluate risk to laboratory operations and provide mitigation suggestions.
  • Provide input to annual budget for required equipment upgrades, replacements and addition/reduction of staff based on business volumes.
  • Schedule testing and prioritize according to schedule, order volume, and customer priorities. Monitor test process through the lab and ensure all testing is completed and meets order requirements.
  • Ensure that testing data is generated and reported in an accurate and timely manner. Maintain test results and ensure proper storage of test data.
  • Develop effective work relations on an intra and inter department level and across the organization.
  • Ensure laboratory equipment and inventory is procured and maintained to meet demands and requirements.
  • Implement and maintain laboratory procedures, equipment, and test methods to conform to requirements.
  • Create, update, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current regulations and standards, oversee new testing service and methods.
  • Collaborate and assist with the implementation and maintenance of the Laboratory Quality System to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Perform critical error review as applicable per lab practices.
  • Support customer visits, critical and key customer meetings, development of sales guides and marketing materials.
  • May participate on technical / industry committees as assigned.
  • May manage accreditation programs as required in coordination with other Technical Managers
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge, Skill, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of laboratory testing methods. Knowledge of customer and industry standards with respect to test requirements and reporting of data.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, or other regulatory laboratory requirements.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong technical problem solving and process improvement skills.
  • Experience leading and managing the performance of diverse teams.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and/or experience in testing, inspection, and certification (TIC) industry.

Experience

  • 6 years of relevant experience.

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS:

Direct: Senior Lab personnel, including technicians, chemists, and production

Indirect: Entry-level personnel

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Laboratory Environment; fast-paced production; multiple and sometimes conflicting priorities.

Travel Required

  • May be as much as 10% outside of home office area
